When Baba Deep Singh Ji was informed that Harmandir Sahib had been desecrated by the Afghan army led by Abdali, Baba Ji went village to village gathering Sikhs. A line would be made by Baba Ji with their Khanda into the dirt and Baba Ji would simply ask "Whoever is prepared to die for the Guru, cross the line, if you love life, stay home". That same line is depicted in this artwork as blessings for upcoming generations of Sikhs who laid down their lives for the glory of Harmandir Sahib.
Though centuries apart, the shaheeds that defended Harmandir Sahib were both led by Saint generals who lived their lives as Saints before entering the battlefield and leading their respective generation towards martyrdom for the sanctity of Harmandir Sahib. We pay our respects to such great Saint-Warriors, parnaam shaheedan nu.
